The global demand for natural resources and the pressing realities of climate change are driving new forms of conflict over land, minerals, and water. This session explores how a new generation of peacebuilders is confronting this challenge, not by avoiding resource-rich areas, but by transforming their governance into a force for sustainable peace.Four distinct yet complementary solutions will illustrate how transparent, inclusive, and sustainable approaches to resource governance can transform extraction into a foundation for cooperation, building resilient communities and lasting peace. This includes promoting responsible sourcing and local benefit-sharing in mineral-rich regions to prevent conflict, strengthening social cohesion through the co-management of shared land resources and community-led environmental restoration, and empowering women in the critical minerals value chain.
