Description

(Session co-organized with The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation). Democracies today are wrestling with increasing political polarization and rising populist forces. As polarization becomes the new normal, its consequences reverberate beyond national borders— making it difficult to have a coherent foreign policy and to agree on common strategies to tackle global challenges. In a time that calls for unity on transnational issues such as climate change, health security, and conflict resolution, domestic polarization is undermining multilateralism and collective action. This session will convene leading thinkers and practitioners from around the world to examine the impact of polarization on the international system.
