In recent years, AI has risen to the top of the global policy agenda, with countries striving to balance innovation with effective governance. In early 2025, the Paris AI Action Summit opened a new chapter in multilateral dialogue on ethical, inclusive, and safe AI. The Paris Peace Forum, building on its longstanding work to bridge North–South divides in digital governance, played a central role, showcasing 50 innovative and inclusive AI solutions, and organizing key sessions to advance cooperation on AI for public good. From discussions on AI’s impact in Africa to high-level exchanges on cybersecurity, children’s development, and disinformation, policymakers, experts, and industry leaders gathered to discuss global solutions that reflect diverse regional perspectives and promote a more inclusive and responsible AI future.As the spotlight shifts to the 2026 AI Impact Summit, there is a critical opportunity to shape a global AI agenda rooted in development goals, digital solidarity, and equity, with emphasis on inclusive growth, social progress, and planetary health. This session brings together leaders from across sectors to explore how AI can serve as a catalyst for sustainable development rather than deepen digital divides. How can low- and middle-income countries benefit from AI without becoming dependent or vulnerable? What governance structures and partnerships are needed to ensure ethical, inclusive outcomes? Panelists will examine how upcoming global processes can build on recent momentum, aligning AI with the SDGs, investing in inclusive data infrastructures, and fostering cooperation between tech powers and countries with more limited capacities, to deliver concrete, trust-based governance frameworks.
