Amid shrinking international development aid and widespread budget cuts, the global community faces an urgent challenge: how to sustain progress toward the 2030 Agenda in the face of escalating crises and conflicts. With only 17% of SDG targets currently on track, there is a pressing need to rethink how we fund and coordinate humanitarian response, development cooperation, and peacebuilding. This global context necessitates that we both increase effectiveness of the UN and humanitarian systems and tap new sources for innovative financing. To address this funding gap, we must both enhance the effectiveness of existing systems, particularly within the UN and humanitarian sectors, and mobilize new sources of innovative financing. Non-traditional donors, the private sector, and philanthropic endowments all have a role to play in shaping a more resilient and inclusive funding landscape. This panel will explore best practices for coordination with non-traditional actors as well as innovative funding mechanisms. The discussion will highlight the importance of investing in people as a pathway to long-term stability and resilience. Panelists will discuss the main reasons for non-traditional actors to get involved in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, and explore new cooperation models and joint resource mobilization strategies to close the funding gap and advance peace and development.
