Ina HeusgenDirector for Humanitarian AssistanceGerman Federal Foreign OfficeDr. Ina Heusgen, born in 1976, was appointed Deputy Director General for Humanitarian Assistance in the German Foreign Office in September 2024.A medical doctor and Lawyer by education, she started working as a career diplomat at the Foreign Office in 2005.After postings in field of security policy, European foreign policy, relations with European partners and cooperation with the German parliament, including mandates for the German Armed Forces in the Foreign Office as well as the Federal Chancellery between 2005 and 2017, she worked as a Policy Adviser for the UN Department of Peace Operations (DPO) of the United Nations in New York from 2017 to 2019.From 2019 to 2021 she joined the German Permanent Mission to the UN as Deputy Political Coordinator (during Germany’s membership of the UN Security Council).From 2021 to 2024 she served as Director for Multilateral Affairs, UN, G7, G20 and for Africa at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin.
