As the first witness to climate change—rising temperatures, rising sea levels, acidification, marine heatwaves— the ocean embodies the cascading effects of global greenhouse gas emissions.These upheavals threaten an ecosystem vital to the balance of the planet and the livelihoods of millions of people. The ocean - victim, agent, and subject of climate change - focuses tensions and reveals interdependencies. This discussion, organized a few months after the third United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, aims to bring the ocean back to the forefront of discussions on peace, security, and climate action, in order to help build collective responses that meet the scale of the challenges.
