Je m'occupe des changements scientifiques, technologiques et planétaires. Je suis actuellement rédacteur principlal chez The Economist.J'ai écrit quatre ouvrages : « Mapping Mars : Science, Imagination and the Birth of a World » (2002) ; « Eating the Sun : How Plants Power the Planet » (2007) ; « The Planet Remade : How Geoengineering Could Change the World » (2015) ; et « The Moon : A History for the Future » (2019). Ils traitent tous de la compréhension et de l'imagination des processus planétaires, notamment du changement climatique sur Terre.Je suis président du conseil d'administration de The Degrees Initiative, une ONG qui se consacre à placer les pays en développement au cœur des discussions sur la géo-ingénierie solaire. L'astéroïde 10716 Olivermorton est nommé en mon honneur.
