Description
Carlo Monticelli, an Italian national, became Governor of the CEB in December 2021 after serving six years as Vice-Governor for Financial Strategy. He previously worked for more than a decade at the Italian Treasury, including as Head of International Financial Relations, representing Italy in international financial fora. Before joining the Treasury, his career straddled both private and public sectors, serving as Deputy Director in the Research Department of the Bank of Italy and working for Deutsche Bank in London. Governor Monticelli holds a Ph.D. in Economics, an M.Sc. from the University of York, and has studied at Oxford. He has published extensively and taught at various institutions. In 2025, Governor Monticelli serves as Chair of the Heads of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) Group.
