Description

André Aranha Corrêa do Lago was born in 1959 and holds a degree in Economics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He joined the Brazilian foreign service in 1982 and has served in postings in Brasília, Madrid, Prague, Washington, Buenos Aires and Brussels. He was Brazil’s chief negotiator for climate change and for the Rio+20 Conference, and later served as ambassador to Japan (2013–2018) and to India (2018–2023). From 2023 to 2025, he was Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs for Climate, Energy and Environment. On January 2025 he was nominated COP30 President-Designate by President Lula. Corrêa do Lago is also the author of several works on sustainable development, climate change and architecture. He is married and has four children.
