Description
Dr. Irakli Beridze is Head of the UNICRI Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at the United Nations, with over 25 years of experience driving multilateral negotiations and building global partnerships across governments, UN agencies, international organisations, industry, academia, and civil society. He advises governments and institutions worldwide on AI strategies, policies, and action plans, with a focus on security, crime prevention, criminal justice, and the responsible governance of AI.Since 2014, Dr. Beridze has led one of the UN’s pioneering AI programmes, initiating and contributing to the creation of AI governance instruments and facilitating concrete, real-world solutions—such as applying AI to tackle crime—for critical global challenges. He has organised high-level events at the UN General Assembly and other international fora, advancing the role of AI in addressing global threats and accelerating the UN Sustainable Development Goals. For his contributions, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Business and Technology University.He has served on leading bodies including the World Economic Forum’s Global AI Council, the UN High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation, and the European Commission’s AI Expert Group, and is widely published, quoted, and recognised for his leadership in AI and security. Dr. Beridze is also an International Gender Champion and recipient of recognition on the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the OPCW in 2013.
