Description
Edi Rama (born 4 July 1964) is the Prime Minister of Albania and leader of the Socialist Party since 2005. He came to power in 2013 with a platform focused on European integration, economic growth, societal development and democratization. Re-elected in 2017, he secured the first single-party parliamentary majority in 25 years. Since then, Prime Minister Rama has spearheaded Albania's reform agenda, driving tangible progress in key areas such as the rule of law, the European Integration process, and international recognition. Previously, Rama was Minister of Culture (1998–2000) and Mayor of Tirana (2000–2011), where he transformed the city’s appearance, earning international recognition including “World Best Mayor” (2004) and Time Magazine’s “European Hero” award.Beyond politics, Rama is a professional painter with exhibitions worldwide and a former basketball player for Dinamo Tirana and Albania’s national team. He is married to Linda Rama and has three children: Greg, Rea, and Zaho.
