Joël Weiler has been involved in humanitarian work since 1992. He worked for various NGOs mainly in the fields of education, protection and health. His career has taken him to work in various contexts in the Sahel, southern Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.With extensive experience in development and emergency programs, he joined Médecins du Monde France in November 2010 as General Coordinator. He held this position for several years in various fields, such as the Syrian crisis.At the end of 2013, he took on the role of Emergency Manager at Médecins du Monde headquarters, then Deputy Director of International Operations. Since 2017, he has been the association's Executive Director.Médecins du Monde's ambition is based on its status as a leading medical NGO that advocates for fairer access to healthcare and rights, both here and abroad. The main challenges are to strengthen the association's independence and build a strong network to make its cause heard around the world.
