Description

Michael Bąk, is a public policy and digital rights expert with over 25 years in peacebuilding, diplomacy, tech governance and human rights across complex political-cultural contexts. He is AI Safety Asia’s Head of Policy & Network, and Global Advisor (Asia) for Ethical AI Alliance. He held leadership roles with USAID, United Nations, Facebook as first policy lead for Thailand/regional institutions, and former Executive Director of the Forum on Information & Democracy. He writes extensively at margin-notes-squared.com on decolonising technology and governance. He holds a Master in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and academic credentials from Kalamazoo College (US) and Nagoya Gakuin University (Japan). Michael speaks English, French, and Bahasa Indonesia, previously fluent in Japanese, and proficiencies in Spanish, Thai, Malay and Portuguese.
