Description

As waste and pollution threaten people and ecosystems, innovative circular solutions are turning challenges into opportunities. This session will showcase pioneering initiatives that demonstrate how circular solutions can address environmental challenges while creating social and economic opportunities.Drawing on pioneering initiatives from Benin, Nepal, and Ukraine, communities and organizations are finding innovative ways to transform waste and turn environmental challenges into valuable resources. Across these regions, invasive plants, discarded materials, and industrial by-products are repurposed or mitigated through solutions that generate green jobs, empower local communities, and restore ecosystems. From converting plants into compost and artisanal goods to upcycling materials into safe and engaging playgrounds or deploying technologies that reduce industrial emissions and dust while enhancing safety, these efforts show how circular approaches can revitalize wetlands, create safe spaces for children, and improve environmental quality. Together, they illustrate how turning environmental challenges into resources can simultaneously support livelihoods, foster resilience, and protect ecosystems, offering scalable models for a more sustainable future.
